Derezzed

A science fiction term: to disappear or dissolve into pixels.

Derezzed, created in 2020, is a thought-provoking and visual exploration of the intersection between reality and the virtual world. The combination of realistic environments combined with low-resolution qualities is certainly unique and visually captivating.

This project invites you to look into a world that almost looks real, but not quite. There is an interesting tension and sense of uncertainty when examining the photographs, as if stepping into the brink of another dimension that hasn’t fully materialized. The surreal quality of the photographs also begs the question of what lies beyond worlds created with pixel data that have been erased.

These images are all that is left from these worlds as they no longer exist in virtualy reality form. The platform in which I made this work called Altspace was dissolved.
